The Yewa North Local Government (YNLG) Area of Ogun State has intensified its intervention in the education sector with the construction of a block of three classrooms at Igan-Alade and the renovation of a block of four classrooms at Ebute-Igboro, reaffirming its commitment to complementing the State government’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure across the State.
The projects, executed by the administration of the Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, were aimed at providing a befitting learning environment for pupils and teachers, while addressing infrastructural challenges confronting schools in rural communities.
Speaking after the commissioning of the projects, Dr. Akinbode, said education remained a major priority of his administration, stressing that the interventions were designed to complement the tremendous efforts of the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
He said the local government would continue to identify areas requiring intervention and complement the State government in providing quality and functional educational facilities for children across Yewa North.
“Education is the foundation of sustainable development. Our responsibility as a local government is to complement the tremendous efforts of the State government by ensuring that our children have access to safe, conducive and functional learning environments,’’ he noted.
The Chairman commended Governor Abiodun, for his sustained investment in the education sector, noting that various interventions in school infrastructure and teaching and learning facilities had contributed significantly to improving the standard of education in Ogun State.
Akinbode, also urged school authorities, teachers, parents and members of the benefiting communities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance for the benefit of present and future generations.
He acknowledged the contributions of the councillors, Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Stephen Adeogun and Hon. David Opeifa, of the benefiting communities for their support and commitment towards ensuring the successful completion of the projects.
Former members of the Ogun State House of Assembly who represented Ketu State Constituency, Hon. Job Akintan and Hon. Rasaq Oduntan, as well as former Commissioner for Education, Hon. Olawale Bankole, all from the benefiting communities, expressed appreciation to Dr. Olusola Akinbode for the intervention.
They described the projects as timely responses to the educational needs of pupils and teachers in the communities, commending the Akinbode administration for prioritising grassroots development.
Similarly, the Onimoto of Imoto, Oba Gabriel Ogunyomi, and the Elebute of Ebute-Igboro, Oba Hamzat Dosunmu, commended the local government for the projects, saying the improved facilities would boost teachers’ morale and encourage pupils to concentrate better on their studies.
The education intervention was part of the Akinbode administration’s broader efforts to improve basic social infrastructure, strengthen human capital development and enhance the welfare of residents across Yewa North Local Government Area.
