YNLG Commissions PHC In Border Community

Residents of Omilende-Igbokofi, a border community in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, have shown excitement following the commissioning of a newly constructed and equipped Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the community.

The village is one of nine adjoining border communities along the Ijoun axis, close to the Republic of Benin and with the new health facility, access to quality and affordable healthcare services would be easier for residents who previously had to travel long distances to access medical attention.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning, Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, commended the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his administration’s intervention in the health sector across the State.

Akinbode, said the construction and equipping of the facility would significantly ease the challenges faced by residents, particularly those in the border communities, to access healthcare services.

He assured the people that the Council would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots, urging residents to make judicious use of the facility and protect the infrastructure.

Also speaking, the Council’s Doctor and Secretary of the PHC, Dr. Taiwo Adebowale, expressed appreciation to the government for providing healthcare workers with a conducive environment to operate, while he appealed to residents to patronise the facility and support healthcare workers to ensure effective service delivery.

Two community leaders, Pastor Garb Kunle and Mr. Elijah Ilori, lauded the government for responding to the longstanding demands of the people, particularly the provision of the health centre and a solar-powered borehole.

They, however, appealed to the government to construct a motorable road linking Ijoun and Igbokofi, stressing that improved road infrastructure would enhance access to the health facility and boost socio-economic activities in the area. They thereafter assured the government that the community would ensure the judicious use and protection of the facility.

In his goodwill message, the Onijoun of Ijoun Land, Oba Gabriel Ogunji, expressed appreciation to the State and local governments for extending healthcare infrastructure to border communities such as Igbokofi.

The traditional ruler described the project as a significant intervention that would improve the wellbeing of the people, urging residents to reciprocate the gesture by supporting government programmes and initiatives at all levels.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included the Adele of Ijoun Land, Hon. Alani Olaleye; and the Asoju Baale of Igbokofi, Chief Alani Bamigbose. They commended the government for the project and called for more developmental interventions in the border communities.
