OGSIEC Holds Stakeholders Meeting, Fixes February 21st For Bye-Election

 The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has fixed Saturday, 21st February, 2026, for a Bye-Election to fill the vacant Councillorship seat in Ohunbe Ward, Yewa North Local Government area of the state.

 Chairman of the Commission, Mr Babatunde Osibodu revealed this during a stakeholders meeting held at yewa North local government council secretariat Ayetoro, saying the election became necessary following the demise of the former councillor representating Ohunbe Ward, Hon. Emmanuel Opeisa. 

Represented by the Commissioner in charge of Legal Affairs, Mrs Remilekun Olaopa, he  explained that the engagement offers the stakeholders an opportunity to familiarise with election guidelines thereby synergising to ensure a credible election. 

“Let me emphasized that this engagement underscored our resolve to conducting an election that is free, fair, and credible”.

The Commissioner implored the stakeholders to  embrace peace and decorum saying these would go a long way in ensuring the success of the election.

“This forthcoming election depends not only on OGSIEC but on the collective responsibility of all stakeholders. We must all play our part in upholding the sanctity of the democratic process”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman Yewa North local government, Dr Olusola Akinbode represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon.Olumide  Ilori, acknowledgd the Commission's unflinching commitment to a free, fair and credible election.

The Electoral Officer of Yewa North local government, Mr Olubori Akinleye, while unveiling the election time table and guidelines, urged political parties, candidates, and community members to conduct themselves peacefully. 

Responding on behalf of the stakeholders, the Olohunbe of Ohunbe, Oba Oladokun Adekola appreciated the state electoral body for its preparedness towards ensuring a smooth process.

Representatives of political parties including APC and PDP, commended OGSIEC for engaging stakeholders early, pledging their holistic cooperation in ensuring a peaceful election.

Other stakeholders present at the meeting included Community leaders, security agencies and other important personalities.
