SFH DISC 2.0 Advocates Contraceptives Adoption For Women

In an effort to reduce maternal deaths and improve child survival rates, access to contraception, reproductive health education, and family planning services in promoting healthier families and communities was essential. 

The State Program Advisor, Society for Family Health, Delivering Innovation In Self-Care DISC 2.0 project, Mrs OmotayoAdeyemo, made this known during an awareness campaign held at Siun market, Obafemi Owode local government, in celebration of the 2025 World Contraception Day. 

Adeyemo while speaking on the theme for the year, "A Choice for All:Freedom to Plan, Power to Choose" emphasizes the importance of informed choices in reproductive health, stressing the need to break myths and promote open conversations about contraception to ensure that individuals can make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

She emphasized that every individual deserves the ability to plan their life and exercise autonomy when it comes to their reproductive health. Access to contraception is not just a health concern, but a fundamental human right that is essential for bodily autonomy, gender equality, and broader well-being.

Also speaking, the state family planning Logistics officer,  Mr Olawale Onipede, said that the state government was committed to ensuring access to safe, affordable, and effective contraceptive services, as no woman or girl child of reproductive age should die ignorantly and prematurely. 

Appreciating the initiatives on behalf of the traders,the iyaloja of Siun, Mrs. Omolara Martins revealed that the campaign has widened their knowledge on benefits of contraceptives and promised to inform and educate their children, family and friends on the use of contraceptives.
