Yewa North Legislative House Passes IGR, Proof Of Address Bills For Second Reading

The Legislative House of Yewa North Local Government, has passed for second reading two executive bills aimed at strengthening revenue generation, improving planning and accelerating infrastructure development across the Council Area.

The bills, titled "A Bye-Law for the Upward Review of Rates and Levies on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)" and "A Bye-Law Establishing Proof of Address Requirements for Residents of Yewa North Local Government," were designed to enhance the Council's revenue base, improve residents' data management and support sustainable development initiatives.

Presenting the executive Bills before the House, the Acting Clerk, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogunseyiye, conveyed the proposals on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, explained that the bills were introduced to boost infrastructural development, ensure proper maintenance of existing public facilities and improve service delivery across the local government.

Leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Hon. Naimu Olaleye, described the proposed legislation as a timely intervention that would facilitate the delivery of the dividends of democracy to all parts of the council while promoting socio-economic development.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Gboyega and the Deputy Leader, Hon. Yussuf Falana, noted that the bills reflected the commitment of the Council Chairman to expanding infrastructural facilities and ensuring effective maintenance of public assets for the benefit of residents.

In his remarks, the Leader of the House, Hon. Stephen Adeogun, re-emphasised the urgent need to address infrastructure deficits and strengthen the culture of maintenance across the local government. He stated that the proposed laws would provide the necessary legal framework for achieving these objectives.

Following deliberations, the House, through a voice vote, referred the bills to its Committee on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for further legislative scrutiny and necessary action before their eventual consideration for passage.

The proposed legislation was expected to enhance revenue generation, improve residents' identification and documentation processes, strengthen security, support effective planning and facilitate the provision and maintenance of critical infrastructure throughout Yewa North Local Government.
