Senate Confirms Professor Mahmood Yakubu As INEC Chairman

 

Professor Mahmood Yakubu‘s reappointment as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been confirmed by the senate.

The confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on INEC, led by Senator Kabiru Gaya, which submitted its report at plenary and recommended Yakubu for confirmation.

The senators, who spoke before his confirmation, described him as highly qualified for the job.

Professor Yakubu’s appointment ensures that he will serve as the head of the electoral commission for another five years, having served  1st tenure from 2015 to 2020.
