The Olabisi Onabanjo University's "Admission List" is out. But there's a very bad news that comes along with this goodnews and this actually necessitate a very quick reaction from well thinking Nigerians, especially OOUITES. It is very glaring but sad to discover that education in Nigeria, even in the public sector is meant only for the rich and wealthy, even in our world today. Waking up to the good-news that the Olabisi Onabanjo University admission list had been released after some weeks of impatient waiting by the prospetors who applied for the School's "PUTME" and wrote their exams some weeks ago.
Yeah, it is a good news, not actually because I'm also seeking admission (as I just graduated from the same school last session), but because I know how happy I was the night I discovered I'd been admitted into the same university some years back. Hence, the sad news came with the ludicrous and exploitative recent hike in the "Acceptance Fee" of the newly admitted "freshmen" students. The new acceptance fee is 60,000 NAIRA! That's so ridiculous and out of commonsense and totally devoid of empathy for the less-privileged. The acceptance fee was an exploitative 40,000 Naira just four years ago when I gained admission into the school, while in the following year, the 2015/2016 session it increased to 50,000 Naira, then I expected the school management to increase the fee to either 55,000 or 60,000 Naira in the 2016/2017 session but they were cunningly-wise and they didn't make any increment, instead they kept it at 50,000 Naira. Now it's the 17/18 admission year and the school had exploitatively increased the admission fee to a ridiculous amount of 60,000 NAIRA!. How Sad?. This is a school with inadequate Lecture Halls, Inadequate Lecturers (in terms of numbers), Inadequate Transportation System, Very Poor Electric Power Supply in the school environment (as majority of the students live off-campus), Poor Health System with Inadequate Health Workers and Poor Public Relations from the Medical Personels as they do frustrate students almost every week due to their unprofessional negligence of students when they need them the most, This is coupled with a poor on-campus hostel whose owners (The School Management and Some other Private entities) find it hard to provide consistent water and electric supply for, and a total unavailability of Health Centre on Campus after the closure of the "Main Health Center" on campus which is for all students ( and this health center, just like all other civil departments close for daily work between 4:00pm and 6:00pm in the evening), thereby putting these students lives at high-risk. And for your information, these On-campus hostels is made compulsory for all students of some faculties, i.e Law, Engineering, Medicine and some others. and your admission would be forfeited if you were unfortunately unable to pay this hostel fee despite the fact that you already paid the ridiculous acceptance fee of 50,000 Naira which is now 60,000 NAIRA.
How Sad For My School, the Poor Educational System, My State of Origin( Ogun State) and Our Dear Country Nigeria?. The sad part now is that both the affected students and the "Students Union Government" wouldn't do anything about this, just as they've been a docile educated and glorified groups of people over the previous years. Although I hope they change for good. "As I am pretty optimistic of the newly elected Students Union. I hope they don't fail themselves by failing the students". History also has it that whenever admission fees are increased, it always comes with a HIKE IN SCHOOL FEE. for this reason, I'll advice all OOUITES not to take this recent hike in admission fee with levity as AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL, Because these people who are inconsiderate to fresh students would never be considerate to you who are already their students because they'll threaten you with the "DO YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR STUDENTSHIP?" MANTRA which they know most of you fear and dread and also get sheepy whenever they chant that ridiculous inhumane sentence which they love doing to cow you so that they could go on with their anti-students policies. #SAVEOOUITES!
