LG Chairman Pledges To Sustain Abiodun’s Grassroots Legacy, Commissions Community Projects

 

The Chairman, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has pledged to sustain and deepen Governor Dapo Abiodun’s grassroots development agenda, describing the governor’s achievements as “a legacy worthy of emulation”.

Dr. Akinbode made the pledge in Ayetoro during the commissioning of community-based projects across the council area. He commended Governor Abiodun for his commitment to grassroots governance, particularly in road infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

“These projects are not just physical structures; they are symbols of progress and testimonies of a government that listens to its people,” he said. “Our duty at the grassroots is to ensure that the legacy of inclusiveness and development set in motion by Governor Abiodun does not wane but is strengthened for generations to come.”

Governor Abiodun, represented at the event by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, praised Dr Akinbode and his team for their efforts in addressing the needs of the people.

“I congratulate the entire people of Yewa North for this impact. It can only get better with more support for the government. I therefore charge you all to take ownership of these projects for the overall benefit of everyone,” Hamzat said.

Projects commissioned include:

A block of three classrooms each at Imasai and Saala-Ayetoro

Motorised solar borehole facilities in Ayetoro, Igan-Okoto, Ijako-Orile, and Ijoun.

Renovation of offices attached to works and housing department with eight offices, conference room, and legislative chamber at the council secretariat.

The council also reported that over 7,110 residents have benefitted from empowerment and skill acquisition programmes aimed at improving livelihoods across local communities.

Residents trooped out in large numbers to witness the ceremonies, many applauding both Governor Abiodun and Akinbode for extending development to rural communities.

The Iyaloja-General of Ogun State, Alhaja Yemisi Abass, lauded Akinbode’s commitment to grassroots empowerment. “This is leadership in action. By complementing the governor’s vision, Akinbode has shown that the people’s welfare remains paramount,” she said.

Party stakeholders, including Pa Olu Agemo, Alhaji Bisiriyu Popoola, APC Yewa North Chairman Chief Gabriel Adeosun, and the Leader of Legislative House Hon. Stephen Adeogun, also praised the initiatives, describing them as a “strategic reinforcement” of the APC’s development agenda ahead of future elections in the state.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, political stakeholders, and government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. RazakDaddah; Permanent Secretary Dr. Rotimi Olu Akinlesi; Director of Local Government Affairs, Mr Sunday Oduntan, Head of LG Administration, Mr. Idowu Odeyemi; Vice Chairman, Hon. Joseph Ilori; LG Secretary, Alhaji Lukumon Akinyemi; and councillors from the 11 wards of the local government.
