Funke Akindele, Rogers Ofime, Bolanle Austen-Peters lead nominations at AMVCA8

Funke Akindele-Bello, Rogers Ofime and Bolanle Austen Peters led the nomination list of the eighth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) revealed on Saturday night.

AMVCA regular and movie producer, Funke Akindele topped the list with six nominations followed closely by Ofime who had 5. Austen-Peters came third with three nominations.

Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga was nominated for Best Costume Designer. She also secured nomination in the Best Actress in a Comedy, Best Movie (West Africa), Best TV Series (Drama or Comedy), Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series and Best Overall Movie categories.

Funke Akindele won the Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series) for Moms At War in 2020 and would be hoping to better the tally at the eighth edition.

Bolanle Austen-Peters was nominated for Best Movie (West Africa) for Collision Course, Best Director (Movie) and Best Overall Movie.

Rogers Ofime was nominated for Best Indigenous Language – Hausa for the movie, Voiceless, Best TV Series (Drama or Comedy) for The Mystic River, Best Picture Editor, Best Overall Movie and Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series.

AMVCA 8 will be a week-long event featuring a series of activities. The week-long event begins with the opening night on Sunday, May 7 and will run through May 14, when the award night will hold in Lagos.
