Rivers rerun: Wike accuses police of bias over murder of DSP Alkali

Governor Nyesom Wike has called on the Nigerian Police to tell the world how and where Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohammed Alkali was murdered during the rerun legislative elections, Leadership reports.
According to the governor, the police have also refused to make public the communication that DSP Alkali’s killers had with a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former commissioner of Power, Sir Augustine Kachi Nwokocha, before he was brutally murdered.
Nwokocha, who was accused of having a hand in the police officer’s death,
denied the allegation last month.
However, Governor Wike wonders why Nwokocha has not been questioned.
Wike accuses police of bias over murder of DSP Alkali
Speaking at the government House, Port Harcourt, when he granted audience to the management of a private media organization, Wike said:
“The police should let the world know where the DSP was killed? What is the polling unit where he was killed? The former commissioner of power who was mentioned by the killers, has he been questioned?
“Where is the call log of that former commissioner as communicated with the killers? Have they checked the discussions between the Commissioner and the arrested killers?
“They know the truth, but they want to cover a lot of things. The Army announced that they recovered the uniforms from the forest, was there a polling unit in the forest?.”
The governor noted that the steps being taken to blackmail the state government will fail because the Rivers people cannot be cowed.
Wike also appealed to journalists to always defend the truth and speak out regularly
He said: “The survival of democracy to a large extent depends on a vibrant media. Certain things happening in the country must be made public by the media.”
Recall that DSP Alkali and his orderly were killed by suspected cultist at Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers state during the December 10, 2016 re-run legislative elections.
The Nigerian Army later announced the recovery of weapons and uniforms of the late DSP and his police orderly.
Major-General Kasimu Abdulkarim, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital revealed this to newsmen on Sunday, January 1.
